A Dream Without A Date

You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.  C.G. Jung

Here is the audio version of this post. Thank you so much for listening.

No matter how many awesome ideas you have. Or how badly you want something. Or how passionate and excited you are. If you do not set a deadline to “ship” that idea, it’s just another idea, un-launched.

As I have said so many times, execution and consistency come down to one thing, a decision. It’s not complicated. We make it complicated.

Set A Date!

  • You want to launch a program? Set a date.
  • You want to learn something new? Set a date.
  • You want to create and share a blog? Set a date.
  • You want to send monthly newsletters? Set a date.
  • You want to launch a new website? Set a date.
  • You want to keep your promises to your team? Set a date.

You see, something will always get in the way if we let it. And there are way too many things on our to do list, so something will always get lost.

There are several tools you can use to manage your time and get organized, iCal works awesome for me. But a tool is simply that, a tool. It is what we do with the tool that matters.

Dream all you want. But a dream without a date is just that, a dream. #truth

My Three Words 2015

“Powerful words come with powerful intent. Where you have passion, strength, courage, and determination you can accomplish anything!”

My-Three-Words-2015

Here is the audio version of this post. Thank you so much for listening.

So here we are…. 20 frickin 15! One of my coolest and smartest biz heroes Chris Brogan has been doing a My Three Words practice since 2006. This is where I discovered this awesome intention setting exercise.

Goals to me are just set ups for failure and crushing self worth, so I prefer to set intentions, visions and my three words. We move towards what we focus on, and I firmly believe that if we keep our mind right, the results come. It’s what has worked for me year after year.

My three words for 2015…

Focus
On how I can create and deliver the most value to those I have the honor of serving

Clarity
Seek clarity around what makes my heart sing and do more of that

Action
Take action on the stuff that matters for my body, heart and business

While I would like to think I am pretty good in those areas, I, like many others, get distracted easily. My head plays tricks on me, and taking action on all things of importance is not always my strong suit, particularly in the body department.

So here it is. Simple. No need for more words, they only distract.

What will your three words be for 2015? Wanna share? Click here, I’m listening.

A big shout out to Chris Brogan again for continuing to push and inspire.

The Form

Never confuse movement with action.  -Ernest Hemingway

Here is the audio version of this post. Thank you so much for listening.

Waiting at one of my fave new restaurants for my take-out order, I noticed a feedback form on the front desk. It was the first time I had seen it, on my 3rd time to the restaurant. I took me by surprise, as I would have given them awesome feedback, and told them how much I loved their space.

Then it struck me, there was no system in place to ask me for feedback, yet someone had taken the time and money to make the form, thinking it was a great idea. Sound familiar?

You see, a form is just a form. A form, with a system and process behind it, executed consistently, can become a business building tool. Once again, it’s all in the execution, not the idea itself.

Small business owners are almost always sharing with me how busy they are. One of my questions is always… “busy doing what?”

If we are ever going to grow and create more awesome in our biz, we have to continually evaluate our systems, processes and programs. And of course, all of our “forms”.

Before you create another beautiful form, brochure, card, contact us page, appointment inquiry, program, promotion or engage on another social platform, take a couple steps back and ask yourself these questions…

1. Do we have a system and process to execute this?
2. Is it bringing real value to our biz, clients or team?
3. Is it honestly helping us grow?

If the answer is no to any one of the above questions, well, I think you know what the next step is.
